September 2016 Event

The Industry Event on September 14 featured presentations from Ipsen USASysmex America and L&T Technology Services. Addtionally, Dr. Raj Veeramani provided an update on UW IoT Lab projects and activities.

The day also included a group discussion on forming a collaborative learning work group focused on IoT security.

June 2016 Event

The June 23 Industry Event was a full day of valuable content, knowledge-sharing and networking with peers. The day’s program included insightful presentations (including one by Curt G. Joa Inc., a world leader in engineering and building specialty machines for producing disposable products, such as diapers). Participants also learned about emerging wireless communications technologies from Professor Xinyu Zhang(Electrical and Computer Engineering Department) and Blockchain and Its Implications for IoT from Dr. Thomas Yen (Technical Director, UW IoT Lab).

The day included breakout sessions for the Industrial IoT and Consumer IoT Work Groups to review progress and discuss next steps for the applied research projects focused on Smart and Connected Enterprise (predictive diagnostics of equipment) and Smart and Connected Home use cases.

February 2016 Event

The Consumer and Industrial IoT Work Groups met February 24 to continue work on the recently launched applied research projects. The Industrial IoT project is focused on Smart and Connected Enterprise (predictive diagnostics of equipment), while the Consumer IoT Work Group is taking on Smart and Connected Home use cases. In both of these projects, the work groups’ approaches are based on “learning by doing” using real-world scenarios to address and learn about common issues of interest pertaining to IoT infrastructure, analytics and customer value.

The day kicked off with updates on lab activities and the results of company interviews conducted by the lab. Next, Professors Shiyu Zhou and Kaibu Liu each gave presentations addressing IoT analytics challenges. In the afternoon, attendees broke into parallel work group sessions to develop study designs and activities and determine next steps.
